This evening marks the Parisian launch of
Volume I of The Letters of Samuel Beckett
by two of the editors, George Craig and AUP’s
Dan Gunn. Written between 1929 and 1940, these
letters provide a vivid and personal view of
Western Europe during the thirties. This first
volume is also marked by the gradual emergence
of Beckett’s unique voice and sensibility,
against his own hesitations and the
indifference or hostility of others.
