After receiving a B.A.in English
Literature Marymount Manhattan College, Christine Baltay
discovered art history at the Ecole du Louvre. On completing
her diploma she went on to earn a doctoral degree at the
Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. Professor Baltay
has taught in the United States and in France. She has been
teaching at The American University of Paris since 1983. Dr.
Baltay has also been a lecturer for Christie’s Education for
over ten years. Her specialization is centered in the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; current research is
focused on the history of collecting in eighteenth century
France.
