Filiz Eda Burhan, who teaches modern art and architecture in the Department of Art History and Fine Arts of The American University of Paris, was educated at Bryn Mawr College, and received her doctorate from Princeton University. She has taught at the Faculté des Lettres of the Université de Dakar (Sénégal), and was Program Coordinator and Professor of Art and Architectural History at the Ecole d'Architecture et d'Urbanisme de l’Afrique de l’Ouest, in Dakar. While in Senegal, she was also Local Mission Coordinator and Interpreter for NASA (National Space Administration). Prof. Burhan, who served on the expert jury of the Fulbright Commission for several years, has taught for the Parsons in Paris Program (Parsons School of Design) and The Lauder Instritute, Wharton School of Business (University of Pennsylvania). She has also regularly lectured for the Smithsonian Program in Paris as well as for Chistie’s Education, Paris. Her research activities focus on late nineteenth century art and theory, and its relationship with contemporary science and occultism.
