Dominique Mougel’s first teaching position at AUP was in 1986 for the Department of French Studies and Foreign Languages. She has taught a variety of French classes at the AUP, as well as French courses at ESSEC (Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales). In 1998, she became Chair of the Department of French Studies and Foreign Languages while continuing to teach French courses and developing the department. In Fall 2002 and Fall 2003, she joined AUP’s FirstBridge program – a special program designed for Freshman students consisting of team taught courses – in which she taught a course on Paris ("Paris d’hier et d’aujourd’hui: ses rues, ses jardins, ses mystères") with a colleague from the Art History department.

In Spring 2006, after the reorganization of the AUP curriculum, and particularly of the Department of French Studies and Foreign Languages, she became Director of the Center for Language Research and Teaching. She has already built a new French language course program, which allows AUP students the possibility of receiving the DELF or DALF diploma. She currently teaches a variety of French language courses at all levels.

Since May 1999 she is an Honorary Member of the National French Honor Society, Pi Delta Phi.

Her research interests are related to teaching in a cosmopolitan environment.  She uses Paris – an environment particular to AUP – to develop diverse courses, including civilization, culture and language courses in order to open students' minds to diversity. She is also involved in the creation of pedagogical materials adapted to the structure of AUP's language courses and regularly participates in conferences on questions related to second language instruction and multiculturalism.
