(*) Intensive Modules offered as part of the Fashion Track within MAGC.  Two modules in one semester may be chosen instead of a MAGC elective course.

To complete the degree requirements for the MAGC, students will choose one of two options:

1) Thesis:  Students complete a 50-60 page MA thesis preparing the way to future doctoral study (in the US or in Europe).

Or

2) Internship:  Students undertake an internship with a corporation, international organization, government body or NGO.

Both projects require a 50-60 page paper and represents 3 months' work. The paper will be worth 8 credits. Students can do this during the semester following completion of course requirements. Where possible, a defense of thesis or project will be oral and public, before an interschool jury.

At this moment in time, questions of globalization, media, branding, and cross-cultural communication are strong academic currency. AUP's MAGC focuses on the following thematic areas:

Advertising, Marketing, and Branding in global context

Digital Interactivity / Internet / Satellite / Television in global perspective

Cross-cultural understanding of the role of media in society

Cross-disciplinary understanding of the role of communications in society

Symbolic Capital: the role of persuasion and belief in media

Formation of social and cultural identity via local and global media

The latter four are theoretical areas of exploration that are complemented by hands-on practical work in the areas of advertising and brand management, cultural policy, social movements communication, and media area studies.

All graduate students in this program are required to maintain a 3.00 GPA. Courses in which a student has earned a grade of C- or below must be repeated to obtain credit. No more than two grades of C will be accepted for this Master's degree.
