Health and Insurance

Starting this academic year (2010-11), AUP is pleased to offer its students a new, comprehensive health care program that includes French Social Security.

AUP students will now register with French Social Security at Orientation and receive a Carte Vitale and social security number during their first semester, thus gaining access to basic medical coverage and the right to work (non-European students have the right to work up to 884 hours with a social security number; there is no limit for most European students).

Beyond basic French Social Security coverage, the University has contracted with the Axa Group to guarantee excellent coverage for all of the following and more:

Full reimbursement for most general practitioners and specialists
Eye glasses and contact lenses
Preventive dental treatment
Alternative medicine such as chiropractic care
Doctors who make house calls (SOS Médecins)
Up to fifteen sessions a semester with a psychologist

A new, full-time staff member will now be available in The Office of Student Affairs to assist students with questions regarding social security and supplemental insurance as well as to help with filing claims.

In addition to solid health insurance coverage, AUP students are invited to consult with several in-house counselors, a clinical social worker and other members of the Student Affairs team at any time for advice about doctors, insurance or just to talk.

While we our not a competitive sports university, we offer a wide selection of physical activities to students in an effort to balance body and mind, providing healthy alternatives that fit into the busy academic calendar.

Student Affairs also works closely with students throughout the year to organize health-related events on a variety of topics, including sexual awareness, eating disorders, substance abuse, etc.
