What are some of my fondest memories of The American University of Paris?

I would say that one of my favorite courses was the Department of Art History’s "Paris through its Architecture." The professor was amazing. She was a living encyclopedia. We would walk around Paris to look at historic buildings and learn how history had left its imprint on architecture, sculpture, etc. It was a difficult class, but I learned a great deal from it. Being a business major, I did not need to take that class, but it taught me so much about Paris and its history and architecture that I would recommend it to every new student.

My fellow students at AUP were amazing. From my own group of friends, we represented over ten different countries and over eight languages and three different religions. I think this environment helped me more than anything. At AUP you really are able to get a sense of the international community in Paris, and are given the opportunity to learn from different cultures, languages, and beliefs. I am still in contact with my classmates and we meet up in each others’ own countries for important events. The experiences I had at The American University of Paris changed my outlook on life and how I relate to others. I learned an enormous amount about Islam, and about Muslim countries, and was even able to visit a few on my own. I had an Israeli friend who was also friends with my Arab friends. We all had diverse thoughts on politics, religion, and cultures. We often clashed on many views, especially political ones, but we were able to discuss each person's point of view and then, if we could not come to a common agreement, we respected each others’ perspectives… and differences. This has helped me a lot in life thus far.

I loved that AUP's campus was in the 7th arrondissement. The cafés were our hang-out spots and every day we found ourselves immersed in the French culture and way of life.

My present career path is in advertising. I work for a small, full-service advertising agency in West Palm Beach, Florida and I love it! I am currently an Assistant Account Manager, but hope to build up my own client base in the next few months, and become a full Accounts Manager.

I would say that AUP’s international setting has had a great influence on my career. I can share experiences and knowledge with people from many different cultures and backgrounds. It gives me an interesting edge with my vast travels and worldwide friendships. I was taught to think "outside the box" and open myself to new ideas, and this has helped me considerably in the advertising field. AUP's small classes provided students with one-on-one learning experiences with professors. I am always advocating AUP to prospective students and telling them that attending AUP changes your world view. The academic curriculum is a major part, but in my experience what you learn from your fellow students and surroundings is something even more valuable.
