I was born in Arizona and have lived in Southern California,
Utah, Spain, New Jersey and NYC. I've traveled in various
European countries, as well as in Mexico, Turkey and Asia
(including China, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Hong Kong).
I speak Spanish, French, some Italian, and am currently
learning Mandarin.
I originally came to AUP to study International Affairs and
to learn French, but I ended up taking an entirely different
path – I fell in love with art and majored in art history.
As one can imagine, the plethora of museums and monuments in
Paris greatly enhanced my studies in art history. During my
senior year I interned at the Archives of Paul Durand-Ruel,
the art dealer who helped put French Impressionism on the
map. Looking through documentation and images from the late
1800s/early 1900s was a magical experience.
How would I describe the AUP classroom experience?
Exceptional faculty. The diverse backgrounds of the students
made attending class a cultural and educational experience
in itself. At AUP I was inspired to learn more languages and
explore different cultures. My ability to feel comfortable
wherever I’ve traveled in the world and appreciate other
cultures is definitely rooted in my AUP experience.
After graduating from AUP I was an art dealer in NYC for
almost seven years, working at Sotheby’s and Spanierman
Gallery. I then attended law school and am currently
practicing tax law at Berdon LLP, an accounting and business
advisory firm in NYC. I have a keen interest in anything
international, and have found myself gravitating towards the
international aspects of taxation. Since AUP's art history
program was very rigorous, I knew how to work and plow
through large quantities of reading material. This came in
handy in law school and is a great asset for an attorney in
general.
At AUP I definitely caught the vision that I’m a citizen of
the world and that there are things to be learned from all
cultures. I most value the relationships I developed with
several AUP professors, many of whom I stay in touch with to
this day. They are mentors and friends for life. My vision
of AUP is that it’s a place that will open your eyes to the
world.
