French law requires
that anyone renting a room or apartment in France be covered by
housing insurance; this may be purchased through the University
at a nominal fee of €50 due with the first tuition payment.

The
opportunity to live in Paris,
immersing
yourself in a new culture, becoming part of a Parisian
neighborhood, interacting daily with your neighbors, landlord,
the shopkeepers, etc. is a fundamental part of the educational
experience at AUP.
The AUP Housing Office assists students
in finding comfortable and affordable accommodations within easy
commuting distance from school. Most students are housed during
the first three days of Orientation after they meet with a
Housing Advisor who takes into consideration their personal
requirements, interests, and budget.
Students live in various parts of the city in
Independent Rooms
or with French families or landlords
or in a
student residence
rather than on campus.
The Housing Office
also will aid students who have been at AUP at least one year in
finding studios or larger apartments.
The Housing Office is open year round and
available to assist students with any housing issues they
encounter throughout the school year. Whenever necessary, the
Housing staff often acts as an intermediary between students
and their landlords.

The Campuséa Residence
option gives AUP students the opportunity to live in a secure,
high-quality environment (video surveillance and a residence
director living on site with extended office hours) where they
can interact with other AUP students as well as French students.
This
brand new residence offers an attractive all-included option,
and reduces administrative processes to the bare minimum. All
rooms are singles and are completely furnished, and students
have access to a fitness room, private gardens and a common room
equipped with wireless facilities.
There
are four categories, all in limited numbers, which vary in price
as in size. Prices range from 828€ to 1083€ per month. The real
cost is lower since students choosing this option are eligible
for a housing allowance from the French government.
Living
in a student residence offers certain advantages, particularly
for students who have never lived on their own or in Paris
before: it is a convivial location shared with other students
that does not require students to contract individually with
service providers such as electricity or Internet companies, nor
to pay extra to join a fitness club. |

An Independent Room is typically a chambre de bonne, a
small, furnished, converted maid's room, located at the top of a
classical French apartment building, usually without an
elevator. An average room is between 10 and 15 square meters in
size. These rooms are equipped with basic cooking facilities
such as a refrigerator and a hot plate, a shower in the room, as
well as a shared toilet located in the hall. On the same floor
there are often several chambres de bonne occupied by
other young people studying in Paris.
Rent: € 450 - 650 per month; utilities and phone are extra.

A
room with a French family in an apartment is a private room
rented out to students by a family or landlord. The size of the
rooms varies, but is usually between 12 and 20 square meters.
Varying degrees of privacy exist; you may have a private
bathroom and a personal phone. Some families allow use of the
family kitchen (perhaps with some rules to be followed) and most
will allow access to the washing machine. Utilities, except the
phone, are included. Students can choose an option with or
without meals. Meals shared with the French family offer the
student the opportunity for language and cultural exchange
(vegetarians are discouraged from choosing this option).
Rent without meals: € 550 - 700 per month
Rent with meals
(daily breakfast and 2-3 dinners per week): € 650 -
800 per
month.
