The inaugural program of The American University of
Paris Summer Institutes presents three innovative, intensive opportunities
for motivated students to study in Paris for three weeks. Three different
institutes—Writing, Film, and Global Media—allow students to deeply
experience Paris through its arts and media and to earn four credits in
three weeks of study with professors, artists, writers, and media
professionals from throughout the world.
Students choose one single four-credit course among
the various institutes. Writing students would register in a workshop on
writing fiction, film students
have a course on Paris Cinema, and media students a course on global
fashion and design. Each course meets four days per week
for approximately three hours per day—allowing three-day weekends for
travel and tourism.
In addition, three evening events per week unite all
institute students—writing, film, and global media—for interdisciplinary
presentations by writers, film makers, artists, and media professionals.
Meeting in the university’s Grand Salon, the evening events expand the
scope of each institute by allowing students and faculty to see their
disciplines in a wider cultural perspective—the wider cultural
perspective, that is, of creative pursuit in Paris media. Attended by all
institute students and staff and followed, naturally, by the chance to
interact informally over drinks, the Institute evening lectures give the
full community of students, writers, professionals, and scholars the
opportunity to come together for debate, discussion, and professional
networking.
Housing opportunities are available, either in
affordable reserved dormitory rooms at the Cité Universitaire, a short
trip from the center of Paris, or independently through short-term rental
agencies in Paris. |
