1. All students who are
non European Union nationals must have a student visa
to be enrolled at AUP. |
2. All students issued
a three-month student visa must obtain a valid
Carte de Séjour. |
3. Students must
pick up their Carte de Séjour
from the Préfecture de Police and present it to the
University’s Carte de Séjour officer in the
Registrar’s Office within 30 days of the date noted
on the Convocation as of when the
Carte de Séjour is ready and waiting at the
Préfecture de Police. A photocopy will be placed in
the student’s permanent file. |
| |
Visiting
students must present their six-month visa to the
University’s Carte de Séjour officer in the
Registrar’s Office within these same 30 days, as well as
any other students holding other special residence
permits.
After
obtaining a 6 month visa for your first semester, if a
visiting student wishes to remain for a second semester or
to transfer to AUP then you will be required to return to
your country of residence during the semester break and
apply for a student visa which will allow you to apply for
a Carte de Séjour on your return. You then become
subject to the standard AUP Carte de Séjour
policies. |
| |
| |
| When you arrive in France,
contact the University’s Carte de Séjour
Office in the Registrar’s Office and supply
all the documents requested by the
Préfecture de Police.
It is your
responsibility to initiate this process. |
| |
| AUP then provides
assistance to you in obtaining your Carte de
Séjour by helping you fill out the
application, and by delivering the
application to the Préfecture de Police. |
| |
| The Préfecture de Police
will notify the University when your Carte
de Séjour is ready to be picked up. |
| |
| The University will then
notify you, and you must go to the
Préfecture de Police and pick up the Carte
de Séjour immediately. |
| |
| After you pick up your
Carte de Séjour, you must present it to the
University’s Carte de Séjour officer in the
Registrar’s Office
within 30 days of the date noted on the
Convocation (notification that
the Carte de Séjour is ready and waiting at
the Préfecture de Police). At AUP, a
photocopy will be placed in your permanent
file. |

French Laws
concerning Students & their Carte de
Séjour
In accordance with French law, all non-European Union nationals must
apply for a Carte de Séjour (residence permit) which gives
that person permission to live in France. |
Students who are not nationals of the European Union
receive a three-month student visa, and they are
expected to apply for their Carte de Séjour
upon arrival in France. This student visa, however,
permits the student to enter France only once. This
means that until a student has received his or her
Carte de Séjour, he or she cannot leave and
return to France for personal travel or study trips. |
Visiting
students with a six-month
student visa are not subject to this law. |
It is illegal to
enter France with a tourist visa with the intention
of remaining more than three months. |
Penalties for failing to comply with AUP's Carte
de Séjour Policy |
If you have not presented your
valid Carte de Séjour within the 30 day
limit: |
1. Block your
pre-registration and regular registration for the
following term until the valid Carte de Séjour
is presented to Registrar’s Office. |
2. Block your
grades and transcripts if you have not complied by
the end of the semester. |
Any student who fails to abide
by this policy will not benefit from any assistance
from the University in regularizing his/her student
and residency status in France, and readmission to
the University will be made on a case-by-case basis. |
