Admission of transfer students is
competitive and based on academic merit.
Effective starting Fall 2009, students who have taken previous
university-level academic work, can enter
AUP during any semester, any year, but you must complete at
least 64 credits, including the last 16, at AUP in order to receive a degree.
Our Registrar looks carefully at any university-level
courses you have taken at other schools. We may be able to give
you transfer credit for some of those courses—that is, to allow
those courses to substitute for classes you would otherwise need
to take here at AUP. After
evaluating your previous work, AUP will grant transfer credit as
appropriate.
Up to 64
credits may be accepted for transfer toward a BA or BS degree,
and may satisfy various AUP General Education, elective, major,
or minor requirements. Students will, nonetheless, be required
to complete all University General Education and major
requirements, if equivalents are not accepted in transfer. One
half of the required upper-level courses in the major must be
completed at The American University of Paris. Some departments
may apply additional restrictions. Only two courses may be
transferred in for a minor requirement.
The Registrar reserves the right to accept transfer credit
conditionally, pending the successful completion of a semester
at the University.
Transferring credits:
Students may apply credits earned outside the university
toward a BA or BS degree under the following conditions:
1. New transfer students may apply a maximum of 64 credits
from all sources; 2.
Once matriculated, students participating in a recognized AUP study-abroad
program may transfer in a maximum of 36 credits, but not
surpass the above total 64 credit limit;
3. Once matriculated, students may transfer up to 18 credits
from non AUP recognized study-abroad programs, but not
surpass the above total 64 credit limit.
At least 64 credits must be earned in
residence, including the last 16. Credits will be accepted
from:
|
Regionally accredited American
colleges or universities, provided the courses are similar to
those offered by The American University of Paris and in which a
grade of at least “C” was earned. Credit is not granted for EFL
or ESL courses. |

|
|
Non-American nationally recognized
colleges or universities, provided the courses are similar to
those offered by The American University of Paris and in which
minimum passing grades were achieved. |
