In keeping with our mission to educate students from all over the world, AUP offers a program of university-funded scholarships and grants that are awarded on the basis of both a student's academic strength and the family's financial circumstances.

New freshmen and transfer students with a good record of academic achievement are eligible for academic merit scholarships.

A broad range of loan funds is available for students and is not restricted to American citizens. In addition to the traditional American student loan options such as Stafford, PLUS and Signature loans, an International Student Loan Program now exists for non-American students.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Completion of this United States government application is required for all American students, new or continuing, who wish to apply for scholarships or loans. After the FAFSA is processed, a Student Aid Report is sent to the student indicating the amount of the expected family contribution. This number is derived by using standard federal methodology approved by the U.S. Congress. You can obtain a copy of the FAFSA from the United States or Paris Office, or apply directly through the Web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Once a student is awarded a tuition grant, he or she must be enrolled full-time and must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.5 in order to keep the award for subsequent semesters. To maintain an academic scholarship award, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required. Continuing AUP students who are not currently receiving tuition grants, must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in order to qualify.

Stafford Loans - Stafford Loans are United States federally guaranteed loans that come in two forms: subsidized and unsubsidized. A student must be either an American citizen or green card holder in order to qualify. Subsidized loans are based on financial need and the U.S. government pays the interest on the loan while the student is enrolled in school at least half time. Unsubsidized loans are open to certain dependent students and all independent students and are not need based. Loan repayment begins six months after graduation or if a student drops below half-time status.

Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is a United States federal loan available to parents of dependent undergraduate students to help finance their child's education. Parents may borrow up to the Cost of Attendance, less the amount of any other financial aid received. A credit check is required for the PLUS loan, so a good credit history is required. If an application for a PLUS loan is refused, the student may be eligible to borrow additional money under the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan program. Repayment for PLUS loans begins soon after funds are disbursed.

The Signature Loan is a private loan available to United States citizens that allows students to borrow up to the Cost of Attendance less the amount of any other financial assistance received. The student is the borrower and must have either good or no credit history. A credit-worthy co-signer is also required to be eligible for the loan and repayment begins six months after graduation.

International Student Loan Program (ISLP) - This loan program has been developed by the International Education Finance Corporation in the United States. Unlike the other loan possibilities, the ISLP loan is available to non-American students. A co-signer is required who must be an American citizen or green card holder and repayment can be deferred until after graduation.

Students from certain countries can qualify for governmental loans which are handled independently outside the University. Check with your own government as to the student loan possibilities. Examples of this type include the CSN for Swedish students, the SLK for Norwegian students (starting their second year) and the SU for Danish students.

The AUP Student Finance Center will help you obtain information about applying for scholarships and/or student loans.
