Paris – Tuesday, October 10, 2006 – The American University of Paris (AUP) and New York University (NYU) entered into a cooperative agreement in May 2006, aiming to build an outstanding academic platform in Europe sustained by the development of an international educational facility on one of the most important development sites in the Paris area, the Ile Seguin. The AUP/NYU project as a whole fits within a broader plan to transform Seguin into a nexus of the arts, sciences, and research, and seeks to contribute to the intellectual scope of this historic and culturally rich land.
At the present time, the development of the real estate project is contingent on the completion of a feasibility study, composed of various phases, which should lead to the signature of a promesse de vente for the two plots of land reserved for AUP, in early April 2007.
One of the phases of this feasibility study entails the choice of an architect who will be in charge of the pre-design of the new buildings in accordance with space needs and financial constraints. The architect’s work will allow AUP and NYU to establish a definitive estimation of costs and to move forward on the financial planning for the new campus.
After having interviewed over the last few months a number of outstanding architects, including Bernard Tschumi and Rafael Viñoly, three teams were selected by AUP and NYU and named to a shortlist: SOM/Ateliers 234 (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP), Atelier Christian de Portzamparc SA and Atelier Jean-Paul Viguier SA. In late August 2006, the three potential candidates were auditioned by a jury composed of the City of Boulogne-Billancourt, the SAEM Val-de-Seine Aménagement (public urban planner), AUP, and NYU.
We are pleased to announce that Atelier Jean-Paul Viguier SA has been chosen and will, at first, contribute to the completion of the feasibility study already in progress at the present time. Subject to approval of the feasibility study, Atelier Jean-Paul Viguier SA will then proceed to the definitive design stage. |
