If you need to see a doctor, check the Direct-Billing (Tiers-Payant) list and select the provider you need. In nearly all cases, go first to one of the five General Practitioners on the list.

Telephone to make an appointment and make certain that you show up on time. If you can not go to the doctor at the time arranged, you must telephone the doctor and cancel at least 12 hours ahead of time. Missed appointments which are not canceled on time are not paid by the insurance plan and the cost of each and every missed appointment which is not canceled on time will be charged to you directly.

When you see a practitioner, show him your AUP insurance card (certificate of insurance if you have not yet received an insurance card) and current valid AUP ID card. This is all you have to do. Normally you will not have any out-of-pocket expenses, except for the cases mentioned above.

This is the best way to get good care from English-speaking doctors while avoiding spending money.

When you go to doctors on the list, the only time you may need money would be if you use the psychological services or if you order eyeglasses, contact lenses, or dental crowns which cost more than the ceilings in the AUP policy. The same applies to telephone/television rental charges in a hospital which are not covered by the plan.

Remember: A pre-certification agreement is required from European Benefits before surgery, hospitalisation and the situations described in Note 1 of the Overview section.
