The American University of Paris | Orientation

Spring 2009

All new students who have requested to be housed during Orientation must arrive on Saturday, January 10, 2009. Orientation takes place at the FIAP Jean Monet located at 30, rue Cabanis, 75014 Paris (Métro: Glacière).

UNDERGRADUATE students are expected to check-in between 9AM and 1PM.

GRADUATE students will be checked in on Sunday, January 11, 2009 between 9AM and 1PM.

If you arrive on Sunday please make your way directly to the FIAP.

Orientation is mandatory for all new students, regardless of whether or not they have already made housing arrangements in Paris for the coming semester or are currently living in Paris.

Early arrival

If you must arrive before your assigned date, you may:

contact the FIAP directly, or

book a room at a local hotel (contact your counselor who will send you a list of hotels close to the FIAP).

You are responsible for these hotel expenses until Orientation begins.

If you cannot arrive on the designated check-in day, please notify the AUP Admissions Office immediately. Arriving late for Orientation will seriously compromise your adjustment to the University and to Paris. Additionally, there may be negative consequences concerning your registration for classes.

AUP Shuttle Pick-up at the Airport or Train or Bus Station

If you are arriving by plane, train or bus, and would like to be met upon arrival and taken to AUP by the AUP shuttle bus, fill out the AUP Shuttle Reservation form and return it to the Admissions Office.

Students who arrive outside of the orientation dates or after the pick-up time of 15:00 (3pm) will have to make their own transportation arrangements.

So please make note of how to get to the FIAP (see below).

As the majority of students flying to Paris arrive at the Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport Terminal, AUP will have a Welcome booth there.

An AUP representative will be at the booth from 06:00 (6AM) to 15:00 (3:00PM). The booth is located in front of arrival gate 2C. An AUP representative will be at the gate (with an AUP sign) to meet you once you have cleared customs and have picked up your luggage.

Students arriving at Charles de Gaulle Terminal 1, Orly airport, and at train or bus stations will also be met by an AUP representative.

Students who wish to be met upon arrival in Paris on the assigned dates, must return the Shuttle Reservation form to the AUP Admissions Office no later than January 5, 2009.

How to get from the Airports to FIAP

From Roissy/Charles de Gaulle airport (north of Paris)

A taxi will take about 40 minutes and costs approximately €35-45 (tip included). Simply look for the Taxi signs at the airport, which will direct you to the taxi station.

An alternative and slightly less expensive way to get from the airport to Paris is to go through Airport Connection door-to-door shuttle service. This requires contacting Airport Connection well in advance of your flight to Paris, in order to give them your arrival time. They charge €25 per person for the trip from Charles De Gaulle airport and can be contacted at:

To use public transportation from terminal 1, catch the shuttle bus outside the terminal which will take you to the RER station (rapid train/metro) ROISSY/CHARLES de GAULLE. Purchase a ticket and take the next train that leaves. All trains go to Paris.

Get off at the stop DENFERT-ROCHEREAU and change to the metro line #6, direction NATION. Take line #6 for 2 stops, get off at the station GLACIERE and come down to street level. Signs will direct you to the FIAP (approximately a 2-minute walk). It takes about 55 minutes from Roissy Airport to the FIAP.

From Orly airport (south of Paris)

A taxi will take about 30 minutes. Look for the Taxi signs at the airport, which will direct you to the taxi station.

For a door-to-door shuttle service, go through Airport Connection door-to-door shuttle service. This requires contacting Airport Connection well in advance of your flight to Paris, in order to give them your arrival time:

To use public transportation:

Take an RATP bus outside the terminal to the metro station DENFERT-ROCHEREAU. Then purchase a metro ticket and take the metro line #6, (direction NATION). Take this line for 2 stops, get off at station GLACIERE and come down to street level. Signs will direct you the FIAP (approximately two minute walk). From Orly Airport to the FIAP is approximately 40 minutes.
