conference of the Renaissance Society of America, held April 7-9 at the
University of Cambridge (UK). Her paper on Parisian glass and
Renaissance regents and queens was presented in the session entitled
“Bridging the Divide—Habsburg Women as Agents in the Entourage of
Charles V and Francis I”, along with papers by Janet Cox-Rearick
(Distinguished Professor at CUNY, NY), Annemarie Jordan (an independent
scholar presently writing for the Getty), and Christelle Cazaux-Kowalski
(BnF, Arts et spectacles). The second session, entitled “The Household
of Catherine de’ Medici and Multiple Facets of the Queen’s Patronage”,
brought together graduate and post-graduate students from CUNY, la
Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (Paris), and Montreal. |

Ekovich participated in an Aspen Institute France conference
"Europe-United States: Toward New Balances?" held at the regional
prefecture in Lyon on March 17-19. The conference was held in
partnership with the French Center on the United States (part of the
Institut Français des Relations Internationales -- IFRI) and with the
support of NATO, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of
the United States in Paris, the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation, EADS,
the Conseil Général du Rhone and the City of Lyon. The participants
included diplomats, journalists, business leaders as well as professors
and researchers from the United States and Europe. In addition, Ekovich
published "La formation de la nation américaine, son identité" in the
Actes du Colloque "France et Etats-Unis: Un avenir commun!" (ICES,
2005). He was also interviewed on France Inter radio about crime and
homicide in the United States. |

Raj Isar spoke in his capacity of President of the European Forum for
the Arts and Heritage (EFAH) at the European Parliament in Brussels on
March 15, at the launch of a campaign entitled ‘70 cents for culture’
that seeks to obtain the increase of European Union expenditures on
culture from the current annual level of just 7 cents per citizen to 70
cents. From March 16-20 he was at Montecatini Terme, Italy, directing a
workshop entitled From the Politics of Culture to Cultural Policies,
co-sponsored by the European Cultural Foundation, at the Sixth
Mediterranean Social and Political Research Meeting of the Robert
Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University
Institute; he also presented a paper entitled “The mobilization of
cultural identity and difference: some conceptual perspectives.” On
March 3, Isar also began teaching a module of 14 weekly seminars on
‘Intercultural Management’ in the Masters program (Mention Carrières
Internationales) at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques
(Sciences-Po). |
