George
Wanklyn is a member of a three-person team working on a catalog for a
loan exhibition entitled “The Kings as Collectors: The Kings’ Drawings.”
The catalog is being produced as part of a series of exhibitions
organized by the Louvre and the High Museum of Art, Atlanta,
collectively called “Louvre in America.” Starting in mid-October 2006,
and running to mid-January 2007, 58 drawings from the Département des
arts graphiques of the Louvre will be exhibited in Atlanta. From
October 2007 to January 2008, 45 other drawings will be shown at the
Denver Museum of Art. One catalog is being prepared for the two
exhibitions, under the supervision of Catherine Loisel, Conservateur
en chef du Département des arts graphiques. The exhibitions each
consist of four sections, presenting drawings acquired in various ways
by three Kings of France, from 1671 to 1775. Professor Wanklyn is
participating in the formulation of the catalog entries, and is serving
as editor for the submission of most of the entries in English. |
