Dow, William

William Dow presented his paper "Confounding Spirits: Aesthetics and Cultural Studies" for a seminar on Cultural Studies and aesthetics held at the University of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, February 18. His book, Narrating Class in American Fiction, will be published by the New York Division of Palgrave Macmillan in late 2008. Narrating Class will be part of the series, "American Literature Readings in the Twenty-First Century," edited by Linda Wagner-Martin.

Game, Jérôme

Jérôme Game has been invited by the Centre d'Etudes Poétiques of the Ecole Normale Supérieure - Lettres & Sciences Humaines in Lyon to give a research paper on 27 February. Professor Game's presentation is entitled "Ecrire under the influence : la littérature contemporaine en condition des arts visuels, sonores et de performance". On 18 March Jérôme Game and Anne-Marie Picard-Drillien will receive AUP Professor Alice Craven in their Transdisciplinary Research Seminar in the Arts/Philosophy/Psychoanalysis (title tbc). On 28 March Professor Game will organize and convene an international one-day symposium at the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris entitled 'L'Art de la Syntaxe' on the interdisciplinary aesthetics involved in a reproblematization of the issue of 'narrative'. Colleagues from various institutions in France and Canada will address that question by focusing on a variety of practices, including: literature, painting, cinema, video-art, philosophy and music.

Grandes, Martin

The Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government has awarded Martin Grandes a scholarship to attend the Second International Meeting of the Global Network of Government Innovators on March 31-April 2. His article “The Determinants of Sovereign Bonds Spreads: Theory and Facts From Latin America” has been published in the Latin American Journal of Economics (Cuadernos de Economia) http://www.cuadernosdeeconomia.cl/detalle_pub.asp?id_publicacion=1495. The Graduate School of Government is currently discussing a partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to conduct research on local currency markets.

Hercot, Camille

Camille Hercot, together with her Fall 2007 French Translation class, has translated the "Roots & Shoots" environmental tips. These tips are to be used to raise awareness of environmental issues among students in France. She has also agreed to serve as translator for The Jane Goodall Institute on further translation projects (including the French chapter of the "Roots & Shoots" Web pages).

Yudhishthir Raj Isar has been invited to join the editorial board of the Encyclopedia of Global Studies, a project of SAGE Publications, and attended a first meeting held at the London School of Economics on January 19.  A chapter by him entitled ‘Culture, Conflict and Security: Issues and Linkages’ has just appeared in Hettne, Björn (ed.) Human Values and Global Governance. Studies in Development, Security and Culture, London: Palgrave Macmillan, 2008.

Anne-Marie Picard-Drillien recently gave a paper entitled "Lire Ecrire Délire: enjeux épistémologiques d'une psychanalyse de la lecture littéraire" at the University of Leuven's international colloquium "Sign of the Times: The Future of Psychoanalytic Literary and Cultural Criticism in Changing Paradigms". See for details: http://quix.org/sign_of_the_times/  She also organized a session of the Transdisciplinary Seminar in the Humanities (Arts/Philosophie/Psychanalyse) where the psychoanalyst, Marc-Léopold Lévy, author of Critique de la jouissance comme une: leçons de psychanalyse (Erès, 2003) gave the talk "Psychanalyse et gain de civilisation" which was very well-attended by students, colleagues, and outside guests. Yates, Douglas

Douglas Yates gave television interviews on France24 about the political and humanitarian crisis in Chad on Jan. 30, Feb. 1, Feb. 4, and Feb. 11.  He was interviewed about the American presidential primaries on CNBC Europe on Feb. 5, and by London-based MarketWatch on Feb. 6, after participating in a radio roundtable at French daily newspaper Liberation’s ‘Super Tuesday, Super Breakfast’.  He did a television interview with Danish broadcasting network, Denmarks Radio (DR), on the leadership style of Nicolas Sarkozy. On February 15-17, Yates was invited to Berlin by the International Institute for Economics and Politics, Haus Rissen Hamburg, to prepare students coming from all over Germany who will be representing Gabon in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) in New York.
