Daily Update on Campus Safety and Covid-19

THIS POST IS A REPUBLISHED VERSION OF AN EMAIL COMMUNICATION SENT BY AUP PRESIDENT CELESTE M. SCHENCK ON MARCH 1, 2020, ABOUT COVID-19 AND AUP'S RESPONSE. IT IS PART OF OUR SAFETY & SECURITY BLOG THAT ROUNDS UP ALL THE LATEST NEWS AND UPDATES FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

I am writing to you with a final health and safety update before the return of students to campus tomorrow. Thank you for your patience, attention and concern over the last few days as we have put into place preventive measures to ensure the health and safety of our entire community in light of Covid-19. Our community has shown characteristic cooperation and solidarity in responding quickly and efficiently to these preventive measures, and we couldn’t have done it without your support and understanding.

Over the last three days, we have contacted all staff, faculty and students with a Spring Break Travel Survey, in order to identify those who recently traveled to a designated at-risk region. (If your student has not yet filled in the survey, please encourage him or her to do so immediately.) Preparations for the implementation of the self-quarantine procedures are now complete. Students returning from an at-risk region – as well as those with which they have had direct contact, for example by sharing a room, water bottle or communal food – will be required to carry out a 14-day self-quarantine from the date of their return, and their AUP access cards will be temporarily deactivated.

We are working with the offices of Health, Residential Life, Guidance Counseling and Academic Affairs to ensure that students' well-being is maintained throughout the self-quarantine period. All efforts are being made to ensure that academic work can continue as normal. Should students present any symptoms, they must immediately contact International SOS (01 55 63 36 35) and the AUP Health Office (01 40 62 05 77 or healthataup.edu) for support and advice; or their local Covid-19 helpline if self-quarantining outside of Paris.

I want to reassure you that every step has been taken to ensure a smooth return to campus, and that the health and safety of every member of our community is our top priority.

AUP is following and will continue to follow guidelines from the French Health Ministry and the World Health Organization. We are exceedingly grateful to staff, faculty and students for helping us monitor the situation as it evolves and for taking these important steps to ensure the safety and security of everyone on campus.

If you have any questions or require additional advice or support, do not hesitate to reach out to Dana Callaghan, Parent Relations Manager, at parentsataup.edu. Please expect to hear again from us in the days to come.
