The leaders of The American University of Paris work to advance AUP’s mission and values. From providing overall vision to managing administrative functions, the President, Board of Trustees, and President’s Cabinet help shape and guide the University to achieving its greatest potential.
The President represents the University to all of its constituencies, including the board of trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni, families, friends, and partners. The President also takes the lead in articulating strategic vision and setting goals for institutional performance, working closely with her leadership team. Dr. Celeste Schenck is the first AUP President to assume leadership of the University from within. For nearly twenty years prior to her presidency, she served in a variety of roles at AUP including Professor of Comparative Literature and Provost. Her familiarity with all facets of the University as well as her long-time dedication to AUP have made her a dynamic leader determined to guide the University toward ever more growth.
The Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of The American University of Paris. It sets policy and direction, makes decisions about appointments, investments, and performs a crucial oversight function. At present, the board has 24 members, over a quarter of who are alums of the University, and two who are parents of AUP students.
AUP’s six officers are members of the President’s Cabinet and manage AUP’s administrative functions. Within each of their areas of responsibility—Academic Affairs, Finance and Administration, Student Services, Admissions and Enrollment Management, Outreach and Advancement and Communications—each of these senior administrators work to execute the University’s strategic goals and initiatives. They bring years of experience from various professions to their roles.
