Gilets Jaunes Demonstrations Update to Students

This post is a republished version of an email communication sent by AUP Vice President for Security, Operations and Student Services Marc Montheard to current students on April 30, 2019, about the Gilets Jaunes demonstrations. It is part of our Safety & Security blog that rounds up all the latest news and updates for our community.

Dear Students,

Tomorrow is Labor Day , an official Bank holiday in France. Traditionally trade unions call for a demonstration. This year, at least 5 of them have decided to walk together and many yellow vests are expected to join them. The trade union demonstration has been officially registered and allowed by the police (see the itinerary below).

This could be a show of force after President Macron announced his new policies following the great national debate, policies that have apparently failed to please many yellow vests! This is why we urge you to be particularly careful if you plan on traveling in and out of Paris tomorrow.

Many metro stops will be closed as early as 7am and more will be closed as of 2pm. You can check the details on the RATP website. You can also check your International SOS App to keep updated on areas affected by demonstrations and potential street violence.

I’d also like to remind you that all AUP buildings will be closed tomorrow.

Itinerary: Gare Montparnasse, bd du Montparnasse, bd Port Royal, bd St Marcel, bd de l’hôpital, place D’Italie.

Please use caution and stay safe.

Marc Montheard
