TEAMS & SKYPE

Goodbye Skype for business Online, hello Teams!

The university offers all AUP Community members an Office 365 account that you can access with your AUP email address and password at https://www.office.com/.

Some of you, especially in the COVID-19 context, have already been using Microsoft Teams, which integrates all Skype functionalities.

If you are still using Skype For Business, note that Microsoft has just announced that Skype for Business Online would retire on July 31, 2021.

WHY IS SKYPE FOR BUSINESS ONLINE REPLACED WITH TEAMS?

Teams has become the core communications and collaboration service for Office 365, and the company has decided that Skype for Business Online was now obsolete. Actually, this announcement is merely an update in the Audio Conferencing Providers (ACP) timeline that was originally made public in April 2018.

We therefore strongly encourage all AUP Community members to plan and execute their upgrade to Teams as soon as possible.

If you need training on Teams, please fill out this form. If you encounter difficulties with the tool, the ITS Team is happy to provide support, both to students and staff

I AM A SKYPE FOR BUSINESS ONLINE USER: WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?

Do not worry however if you’re a Skype for Business user, you won’t experience any change in the service up to the retirement date.

Besides, to help you make a smooth transition from Skype for Business Online to Teams, Microsoft has put online comprehensive guidelines and resources, including best practices, downloadable assets and instructor-led training. Moreover, Microsoft will still offer support on Skype for Business Online until July 31, 2021. The Company will also provide limited support for remaining active tenants to allow additional time for transition.
