AUP Students volunteer at local supermarket food drives
April 17, 2015
During the 2015 Spring Break, Roots & Shoots Co-President Quincy Childs volunteered in a supermarket food drive organized by the Parisian association La Chorba. The aim of the drive was to collect non-perishable food goods and other essentials such as diapers from local shoppers, which were to be redistributed through France's Food Bank.
Quincy, who gave up her Saturday and Sunday mornings to volunteer at a Franprix store in the 13th arrondissement, exclaimed, "It was an enjoyable and enriching experience in that numerous people agreed to donate food items with an enthusiasm of sheer benevolence. It was an inspiring two days even for me as a volunteer; to witness so many people eager to help however they can. One elderly woman could not carry very much but insisted on donating regardless. We discussed what was needed and she decided to buy packs of powder soup, as they are virtually weightless and practical to give out. This was simply one instance of many, where people genuinely expressed their wish to support the cause. I look forward to helping La Chorba with their Food Drives and welcome all AUP students that wish to join me!"
This was the second time that AUP students have participated in La Chorba's Food Drives. In Fall 2014, AUP Cares President Marina Ceccarelli, Roots & Shoots Co-President Marie Robin and USC Vice President Evon Pervan-Keller volunteered at AUP's local Franprix store at Ecole Militaire.
