Roots & Shoots cleans up the river Seine!
April 27, 2015
On March 22, 2015, the Roots & Shoots Club participated in a Seine clean-up with the organisation Organe de Sauvetage Ecologique. By leading a waterway cleanup effort, they contributed to help make the river Seine a safer and healthier place! Roots & Shoots Co-president Marie Robin said, "We were about 40 volunteers who picked up and cleared away about 30 tons of trash around the Seine at Villeneuve St George. Representatives from the local town hall were also present and they interviewed some of us. When we got there, they gave us boots and trash bags, as well as gloves. We were split into different groups: some were cleaning the surroundings of the Seine (this is what we did) while some were on a boat stopping off along the river banks to clean them up. We found and cleaned unbelivable things such as an old boat, carts, TVs, blankets, hundreds of tickets and of course, hundreds and hundreds of bottles that were sullying the city. It was incredible to see all of these bottles. We spent at least 2 hours picking up beer bottles!"
The Organe de Sauvetage Ecologique kindly thanked the American University of Paris on their website!
