Anna-Louise Milne & Andy Robert: A General Practice

Hybrid Event - In person and on Zoom
Thursday, February 10, 2022 - 18:30 to 20:00

Event name: Anna-Louise Milne & Andy Robert: A General Practice

Date & Time: 10 February, 18.30h

Location: The Quai Building, room 801, 69 Quai d’Orsay (Entrance: 6 rue du Colonel Combes, 75007 Paris)

Join us for the launch – in person and on Zoom – of no.37 in the Cahiers Series published by AUP’s Center for Writers & Translators in association with Sylph Editions (London).

In this cahier Anna-Louise Milne, Director of Research at the University of London Institute in Paris, charts the silent cues and halting accounts that constitute the everyday choreography of health-care in a doctor’s surgery located in a part of Paris where migrants and refugees are likely to be the patients and where questions of language and comprehension – and translation – are never far from the surface.

Her text is rhythmed by paintings by artist Andy Robert who will join us on Zoom. Inspired by his surroundings and community in Brooklyn, as well as his family’s involvement in health-care and mass transit, Robert’s work shares Milne’s interest in our cities’ hidden places that harbour the labour that sustains the bodies of those who are often deemed expendable, even unspeakable.

This event is free and open to AUP students, faculty, and staff. Outside guests may join the event on Zoom. Please register to reserve a space or receive the Zoom link.
