Slosberg Travel Grant Eligibility

Academic Requirements

Individual Slosberg Travel grants may cover both travel and living expenses. Applicants will not receive funding for the following: internships or study trips with AUP or any other institution; research without a specific volunteer component; research conducted with another student or faculty member.

Students are expected to serve as on-location volunteers or participant observers with a local organization for a period of one to six months. Applicants should submit a proposal, as well as proof of correspondence with the organization that they intend to work with. Students may apply only once.

In order to be eligible, candidates must:

Language Requirements

Relevant language skills are considered a plus. Applicants should indicate how they meet any language capacities that may be required for their projects.

Additional Requirements

Grant recipients must:

  • keep all original receipts and present them to the Graduate Programs Office (graduateprogramsataup.edu) in order to provide justification for the budget request in their Slosberg Travel Grant application;
  • submit a written project report with photographs within two months of returning from their destination. The 1000-word project report should (1) summarize the project; (2) evaluate research successes and failures; (3) assess volunteer successes and failures; (4) explain in detail how the experience ties in with the final version of their MA theses, if applicable.

Selection Committee

Grant recipients are chosen through a rigorous selection process organized by a graduate faculty committee. Students whose submissions do not meet requirements or present weaknesses of any kind might be asked to resubmit their applications after taking into account the committee’s suggestions for improvement.

How and When to Apply

Students can submit their paper or electronic applications on a rolling basis throughout the academic year and must give their applications to the Graduate Programs Office (graduateprogramsataup.edu) (5, boulevard de la Tour Maubourg, 75007 Paris, 1st floor).

All applications will be then evaluated by Professor Susan Perry, the principal administrator of the Slosberg Travel Grant, before submission to the selection committee.
