Model UN

AUPMUN is a student-led organisation that brings together a community of globally minded students united by a shared passion for international affairs, debate, diplomacy and democratic dialogue. Founded in 1985, the club has attended numerous international conferences and collaborated with other universities to promote Model United Nations.

Throughout the academic year, AUPMUN members engage in weekly sessions designed to develop essential skills in negotiation, research, policy analysis and public speaking. These sessions simulate the structure and spirit of the United Nations. A typical semester begins with delegates applying for a country assignment; once assigned, they research their allocated country's position on the topic at hand. The simulation continues each session until a resolution is drafted. This approach blends academic rigour with creativity, encouraging members to think critically, challenge assumptions and engage with multiple perspectives.

AUPMUN also represents the university at international Model UN conferences across Europe and beyond, offering students the opportunity to participate in high-level debates and collaborate with peers from around the globe. In 2025, the club attended the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona MUN, where it became the highest-awarded delegation.

Beyond diplomacy, AUPMUN is a community that values connection and collaboration close to home. The club organises social and bonding events, as well as joint initiatives with other universities, including fundraisers, mini-MUN conferences and guest speaker talks. These activities strengthen the sense of community on campus while fostering dialogue on citizenship, democratic backsliding, the future of international cooperation and other pressing topics.

AUPMUN First International Conference

In 2026, AUPMUN is proud to host its first international Model United Nations conference at the American University of Paris. Taking place from 9-12 April 2026 under the theme "Fortune Favours the Bold," the conference will welcome delegations from universities across Europe and beyond to compete with six distinct communities. More than the highlight of the 2025-26 academic year, hosting this event on the AUP campus represents a broader mission: to create a space where students can meaningfully engage with the principles of diplomacy, dialogue and democratic responsibility.

AUPMUN's collaboration with the Center for Critical Democracy Studies reflects a shared commitment to fostering critical thought, civic engagement and open discourse. Through its year-round activities, international participation and flagship conference, AUPMUN serves as a platform for students to bridge theory and practice—more than a club, it is a training ground for the future of diplomacy.
