How to Apply

Application requirements—what you need to submit to us

A successful application requires several supporting documents and sometimes tests.

 

Online application form

AUP has one straight-forward online application for all of the following applicants:

  • College students
  •  Pre-college students (16 and older)
  • Adults and professionals
  • French language enthusiasts (beginner-advanced)

Please complete the AUP online application for summer students.

 

Personal statement

In a maximum of 300 words, in English, please briefly describe your interest in spending your summer in Paris at AUP, including information about the course(s) you wish to take.

 

Official transcripts

If you are applying for credit or audit, AUP requires official transcripts from your last three years of schooling. Transcripts must be submitted in English or French, or be accompanied by a certified translation.

If you are a professional only seeking to audit a class and have completed a tertiary degree, you can upload a copy of your degree in the place of transcripts.

 

English language test

Students must demonstrate sufficient English fluency. If English is not your first language, we require that you submit one of the following tests and that the results be not more than two years old.

To schedule a test in your area, please contact one of these language test organizations:

  • TOEFL: To have your results sent directly to The American University of Paris, use our institutional code 0866.
  • TOEIC: To have your results sent directly to The American University of Paris, use our institutional code 0866.
  • IELTS: Academic Option

The English language test requirement is waived if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • You have been living in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the Unites States where you have recently studied in an all-English curriculum for at least two consecutive years.
  • You are only taking the French Immersion program.
  • You have studied for at least four years in an all-English curriculum in any other country.

We reserve the right to request English test results from any applicant.

 

Covid-19 Special Measure: As a result of the disruption to English Language Testing caused by Covid-19, AUP is trialing the acceptance of the Duolingo Language Test. The test must have been taken after 20 July 2020 and include sub-scores for the 4 component elements. AUP reserves the right to ask for an alternative English Test. 

 

Application Fee

Applicants will be charged a non-refundable €50.

 

Next Steps

Once you are accepted to AUP’s summer programs, you will be required to register and pay for your preferred classes in order to reserve your place. Students who have not paid in full by the tuition deadlines will be dropped from classes. We regret to inform summer applicants that we cannot assist with visa formalities.
