Gilets Jaunes Demonstrations Update to Students

This post is a republished version of an email communication sent by AUP Vice President for Security, Operations and Student Services Marc Montheard to current students on March 1, 2019, about the Gilets Jaunes demonstrations. It is part of our Safety & Security blog that rounds up all the latest news and updates for our community.

Dear Students,

While many of you will be traveling over Spring Break, I know others plan to stay in Paris. If you are here this weekend or next, keep in mind that the Yellow Vest movement will carry on. One demonstration has already been called for tomorrow at 11am at the Champs-Elysées. They should start walking (as of 12:30)  to Place Denfert-Rochereau.  (Arc de Triomphe > Champs Élysées > Place de l'Alma > Trocadero > Porte de la Muette > Javel > rue de la Convention > Alésia > Denfert-Rochereau ). Another group has chosen to organize a picnic on the Champ de Mars.

As usual, further details are likely to be released tomorrow and again just ahead of  March 9 and 16. Our recommendations remain the same now and in the weeks ahead: stay away from demonstrations and stay tuned to the news for the latest developments. We’ll be in touch if anything changes or to warn you about specific concerns as they arise.

Please don’t forget about International SOS over the break. This document provides and overview of the program. Please BEFORE YOU LEAVE ON VACATION take the time to read about it and to download the App for easy and immediate access to 24/7 worldwide medical, security travel and emergency assistance, even in Paris. Whether you have an emergency or just need advice or information on your travel destination, the app provides a range of quick and convenient services.

Happy Friday and best wishes for the upcoming break!
