The Ecological Self in Relationship with Paul Sebastian Ruppel

The Psychology Department of the American University of Paris warmly invites you to a lecture by Paul Sebastian Ruppel entitled "The Ecological Self in Relationship," which will take place on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 18:30 at 6, rue du Colonel Combes 75007 room Q-801.

Paul Sebastian takes his starting point at the increased awareness of environmental problems today, specifically among younger generations. Indeed, the ticking of a doomsday clock appears to be a widely accepted scenario with debates centering on the time that is left to bring this clock to a halt, if any. In order to better understand the social consequences of these debates, Paul Sebastian addresses the psychosocial aspects of environmental sustainability. Specifically, he draws from interviews conducted with individuals and couples who understand themselves as environmentally conscious. He pays attention to the daily struggles of implementing environmental consciousness specifically related to questions around aeromobility that can play a pivotal role for negotiating personal relationships and a sense of self as environmentally conscious.

Paul S. Ruppel is Research Associate at the Faculty of Social Science, Social Psychology and Social Anthropology Section at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. He works as Freelance Researcher at the Institute for Qualitative Research at the International Academy Berlin. His research focuses on qualitative methods, culture, identity, climate change and mobility.
