Cultural Program Excursion - Nîmes and South of France Tour

Friday, June 17, 2022 - 08:00 to Sunday, June 19, 2022 - 19:00

Explore Nîmes and the southern tip of the Cévennes during this three-day tour led by the Dean of Student Development. The first day focuses on the history of the region, with visits planned to the Roman-engineered Nîmes amphitheater, the recently inaugurated Musée de la Romanité and other sites in this southern urban center, dubbed the most Roman city outside Italy. The second day focuses on the pristine nature of the region and it’s delicious wine and food. We’ll visit two wineries in the northern most parts of the AOP Terrasses du Larzac region, both focused on organic production to grow healthy vines that produce high-quality fruit. Dinner and lunch on Saturday will feature local specialties, including fougasse (specialty bread), pélardons (goat cheese) and olives. The last day of the takes us to the Pont du Gard to visit the amazing remains of this ancient-Roman  aqueduct as well as what the site describes as “tree-lined paths, spectacular views [and] Mediterranean flora and fauna". Time is reserved to return to Nîmes for some shopping before returning to Paris in the late afternoon.
