Rebecca Marwege is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Politics in the department of History and Politics. Her research focuses on the political influence of environmental movements at a time of climate crisis. In a book project, titled Climate Action, Movements and Political Change, she studies how youth climate movements redefine the meaning of climate justice and push for political change from the ground up.

Marwege's writing has been published in the Journal of Political Theology, Constellations, Environmental Politics, and Polity. She is the lead editor of Climate Justice Now! – Crossing Disciplines to Combat Our Planetary Crisis, published by Columbia University Press in March 2026. She has also contributed public scholarship in Spanish to Foreign Affairs Latin America and Revista Común.

At AUP, Marwege teaches environmental politics and international relations, with courses such as Challenges in Global Politics, International Politics of the Environment, and Social Movements. Her teaching approach is student-focused and centered around active learning.

Prior to coming to AUP, Marwege served as a Lecturer in Environmental and Climate Justice at Columbia University and as the Junior Director of Columbia’s Earth Network on Decarbonization, Climate Resilience, and Climate Justice - a four-year, interdisciplinary research network supported by Columbia Climate School.
