Projecting Gender: "Persona" Film Screening

Wednesday, October 12, 2016 - 19:00

Presented by Gender, Sexuality & Society Program (GSS) & the AUP Film Department Student Cinematheque

Why are there so few films with women protagonists and why aren’t women in film talking to each other? Today’s Bechtel test asks this question of contemporary cinema. In this film from 1966, a suddenly mute stage actress retreats to the country in the care of her female nurse. Soon, the two women form a strong connection, unveiling their desires and the frailties of personas forced on them by their social roles. PERSONA was ranked by Sight & Sound as one of the 20 greatest films ever made.

The film will be introduced by students from AUP’s Film Studies course, “European Cinema and the Body”

Popcorn and drinks will be provided!
