Fragile Antarctica: Journey to the End of the World

University Room: Fine Arts Gallery
6 rue du Colonel Combes 75007
Wednesday, October 22, 2025 - 17:00 to 20:00

This exhibition presents the field experiences of AUP professors Dr. Manuel Caballer and Dr. Lee Ann Galindo during three biodiversity surveys within The Antarctic Treaty area.

Against a backdrop of news about climate change, CO₂ and other greenhouse gas emissions, the energy challenge and environmental impact — amidst so much noise and debate — the story of this journey bears witness. Far from everywhere, beyond turbulent skies and cold seas, the last fortress rises: a pristine and harmonious world where nature remains upright and bright, sovereign over the very scarce presence of humankind.

This tremendously imposing, almost unreal and intangible place may be telling the final pages of its history. Should it melt, should it break, should it disappear, we are lost.

This is an invitation to contemplate the majestic strength of fragile Antarctica.

Made possible by the generous support of: The Venezuelan Antarctic Program, AUP Academic Affairs & Silver Miller. For the AUP community.
