You are warmly invited to join us for the opening of Kiki Nwankwo's new show "The Mystery Show - Episode 2" on Tuesday, March 31st from 4pm to 9pm.
Kiki Nwankwo is a Nigerian born visual artist based in Paris. His work explores the origins of beloved cartoon characters and their racial histories, He asserts that the mimicry present in the art form has cartoonwashed very present and pressing issues regarding the treatment of Black individuals and their subsequent material conditions. His approach involves a bastardization of the icons in popular media. His work is also guided by the raw desire of his inner child that shows using loose or impulsive brush strokes coupled with spontaneous lines, scribbles or overlaps, bold spray paint gestures. He investigates how the contemporary and street art can be merged through bursts of chaos.
He recruits Mr.Mystery in order to ask himself; how far can I go before I am spent? They partner together to ask you if you see them for what they are or what they remind you of?
