Colloque "Les Lieux de la folie" / "Sites of Madness"

University Room: Judith Hermanson Ogilvie Grand Salon (C-102)
6 rue du Colonel Combes 75007 Paris
Thursday, October 15, 2026 - 18:00 to Saturday, October 17, 2026 - 12:30

Sites of Madness – Les Lieux de la folie is a conference hosted at The American University of Paris from October 15 to 17, 2026 (6, rue du Colonel Combes, Paris 7th). It examines how madness is situated in concrete spaces—psychiatric hospitals, homes, streets, prisons, battlefields, artists’ studios, psychoanalysts’ offices, and the body—and how these sites shape experiences of psychic suffering.

Bringing together psychiatry, psychoanalysis, literature, history, the arts, social sciences, and architecture, the conference will explore dynamics of inclusion and exclusion, confinement and care, as well as the genius loci of these sites of madness.
