Home>News>

20 March – 19 April 2018

You are invited to apply for the Paris Writer's Residency, sponsored jointly by The American University in Paris, the University of Kent’s Paris School of Arts and Culture, and the Centre Culturel Irlandais (Irish Arts Centre).

The appointment is non-stipendiary but accommodation is provided at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in the heart of Paris’s Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement). In addition there is an expenses allowance of 1,500€ to cover travel and subsistence costs.

There are three main obligations:

  • a day of interaction with undergraduate Creative Writing students at AUP;
  • a day of interaction with postgraduate Creative Writing students at PSAC;
  • and a joint public event, in the form of a reading, to be held in a prestigious Paris institution such as the Centre Culturel Irlandais itself.

For the rest of the time, the appointee is expected to further her or his current writing project. The writer appointed to this position may be a practitioner in poetry, prose or another genre. We are interested in someone who offers interdisciplinary possibilities and who would relish the opportunity to engage with students.

Applications should write an email of no more than 250 words addressed jointly to Simon Smith (S.Smith-376atkent.ac.uk) and Siân Melangell Dafydd (sdafyddataup.edu). It should explain why Paris is an appropriate location for your residency and how you would plan to work with the students. You should also attach a CV and a short sample of your current work.

Applications close on 30 December 2017 and the successful candidate will be notified by 31 January 2018.
