Caroline D. Laurent, Assistant Professor of Francophone Studies (AUP) and the Schaeffer Center are welcoming Philippe Broussard for a discussion about his book Le Photographe de l'Occupation.
Philippe Broussard is a journalist and deputy editor-in-chief of the French newspaper Le Monde, where he is responsible for the foreign correspondent’s department.
Philippe Broussard was himself a foreign correspondent for many years, covering numerous events in France and abroad. An investigation published in Le Monde in 1993 earned him the prestigious Albert Londres Prize that same year.
After a dozen of books, Philippe Broussard published in September 2025 Le Photographe inconnu de l’Occupation (Seuil) in which he traces the footsteps of a mysterious photographer who took hundreds of pictures in Paris and its suburbs between June 1940 and the Summer of 1942 at a time when it was strictly forbidden. This investigation, which lasted four years, was awarded with the Grand Prix Michèle Leridon and a major international distinction, the True Story Award (“storytelling” category).
