Located on the 4th floor in the Quai, AUPs Writing Lab welcomes undergraduate and graduate students working on any kind of writing project and at any part of the writing process: brainstorming ideas, developing a thesis, structuring an argument, revising a draft, preparing research projects, writing literature reviews . . .. The goal of each 30-minute conference is to develop strategies that will encourage you to become astute readers and critics of your own work. Although the Writing Lab is not an editing or proofreading service, tutors can help you identify patterns in your writing related to mechanics and sentence structure. Writing Lab tutors are there to listen, strategize, suggest, diagnose, and offer advice. They serve as sounding boards, careful readers, and helpful critics, and are able to help draw out ideas and possibilities that are implicit in your own thinking and writing. Writing Lab conferences complement, but do not replace, the relationships students have with their professors. . . . every writer needs a reader, and AUP’s Writing Lab is here to support you – from first year to graduate students – across the disciplines and at all stages of the writing process.
