Gilets Jaunes Demonstrations Update to Students

This post is a republished version of an email communication sent by AUP Vice President for Security, Operations and Student Services Marc Montheard to current students on May 10, 2019, about the Gilets Jaunes demonstrations. It is part of our Safety & Security blog that rounds up all the latest news and updates for our community.

Dear Students,

Today will witness the 26th chapter of the Yellow Vest movement but, according to most reports relayed by the press, it should gather fewer people than ever. One main demonstration in Paris has been announced focusing on French higher education. It will start at the Université Jussieu, and will go by other French institutions such as Censier, Tolbiac and Diderot (see the itinerary below). Other gatherings of lesser importance in numbers are to be expected at République for instance.

As usual, demonstrating on the Champs Elysées and around the National Assembly or Notre-Dame is prohibited and several metro stations will be closed at different moments of the day. You can find more details on this on www.ratp.fr or www.sortiraparis.com

During this Reading Day weekend, the Library will be open both Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 till 1:45 the following morning, so be studious, use caution and stay safe!

Good luck with revisions and final exams!
