Gilets Jaunes Demonstrations Update to Students

This post is a republished version of an email communication sent by AUP Vice President for Security, Operations and Student Services Marc Montheard to current students on April 20, 2019, about the Gilets Jaunes demonstrations. It is part of our Safety & Security blog that rounds up all the latest news and updates for our community.

Dear Students,

As you are on your way out of Paris, about to leave soon or looking forward to enjoying sunny Paris  during this 3-day weekend, please keep in mind that tomorrow, the Yellow Vest movement will continue. Known leaders of the movement are calling for an increased mobilization in Paris but if you are traveling in France, be aware that Toulouse, Montpellier and Bordeaux as well as Lille and Lyon should witness significant demonstrations.

So far, two main demonstrations in Paris have been declared (see planned itineraries below):

  1.  Bercy, quai de la Rapée, Place de la Bastille, Ménilmontant, Belleville and Place de la République
  2.  Basilique de St Denis, Porte de Paris, Porte d’Aubervilliers, Stalingrad, Place de la Bastille, quai St Bernard.

This Saturday again demonstrating on the Champs Elysées and around the National Assembly is prohibited. As usual several metro station will be closed at different moments of the day. You can find more details on this on www.ratp.fr  or www.sortiraparis.com

If you plan on traveling on Saturday, allow more time to get out of Paris, and, as always, use caution and stay safe!

Have a great WE!
